This week we are talking about how to light your light shine out bright so everyone can see it.
Jesus said about those that follow him,
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-16)
To start we have a new song for you. So up on your feet and get ready to sing.
This Little Light of Mine
Douglas is going to tell us what it means to let your light shine.
We are going to make lanterns today to remind us to let our light shine out bright.
Sheet of A4 paper plain or coloured
Clear plastic cup
ribbon or string
What to do
Cut your sheet of paper in half so you have 2 A5 size pieces
Decorate one of these pieces however you like
Cut 2 stripes as shown from the other piece
Fold your decorated paper in half and make cuts at 1cm intervals from the folded side to 1cm from other edge as shown.
Cut off the top part of the plastic cup and discard it. Put small holes in the sides of the remaining plastic cup and thread through ribbon or string as a handle
Open up the paper and tape the two edges together with the original fold line running across the middle as shown.
Lower the plastic cup and tealight through the top of the lantern. Secure the handle by stapling the small strips over the top of the ribbon at either side of the lantern. The ribbon should be able to move freely through the strips so you can adjust the height of the light.
You will be able to pull up the lantern so you can reach the tea light to switch it on and off. Simply pull the lantern back over the top when you have finished.
The lantern will hang easily and the light will shine!
